“I love layering, creating texture, and balancing colors. It's like when elements wear on wood and metals....it reminds of the feel of the Delta - the history, the heritage."
Kathy Sue grew up in Cleveland, Mississippi where she graduated from Delta State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design. She is the lead designer at her company, Wells Graphics.
Kathy Sue was drawn to painting many years ago as a way to express herself. She enjoys creating art as it is a way of childlike play to her where she can release joy, growth, heartache, and all that life brings.
“Painting is freeing and a time I treasure to express myself,” Kathy Sue says. “Playing with different mediums and exploring color brings back a sense of my childhood and the wonderment of uninhibited creativity.”
Kathy Sue presently resides in Madison, Mississippi and has shown her work at Olde Towne Events in Clinton, Japonica Gallery in McComb, Cups in Madison, Summerhouse in Ridgeland, Metropolitan Bank in Ridgeland, Studio 230 in Cleveland, and the Wright Art Center in Cleveland.
In 2008, one of her works was chosen the Southeastern winner in a contest by the nationally-owned I.O. Metro furnishings store. It was then reproduced and sold in-store. She also has had works reproduced through John-Richard, a luxury home furnishings company in Greenwood, Mississippi.
Presently, some of her works can be seen at Image Gallery Frame Shop and LaBelle Interiors in Madison, and Book Inn Cafe in Greenville.
